{"id":1254,"date":"2015-10-07T01:08:50","date_gmt":"2015-10-07T08:08:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/?p=1254"},"modified":"2015-10-03T21:45:35","modified_gmt":"2015-10-04T04:45:35","slug":"adventure-dreams-around-n-over","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/featured\/adventure-dreams-around-n-over\/","title":{"rendered":"Adventure Dreams &#8211; Around-n-Over"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1256\" src=\"https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/path.jpg\" alt=\"Erden Erus Circumnavigation\" width=\"550\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/path.jpg 550w, https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/path-300x104.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Erden Eru\u00e7 had the notion to circumnavigate the world. \u00a0To support that dream and insure a solid educational\u00a0component, he developed and incorporated Around-n-Over. \u00a0Around-n-Over is a Seattle, Washington, non-profit group dedicated to dreams and honor. \u00a0The organization wants to help people realize their dreams while honoring fallen adventurers. \u00a0Their\u00a0mission is &#8220;to educate and to inspire through human powered journeys.&#8221; \u00a0Their work focuses on education with adventure as the centerpiece. \u00a0Eru\u00e7\u00a0currently serves as president of the organization.<\/p>\n<h1>Six Summits Expedition<\/h1>\n<div id=\"attachment_1262\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1262\" class=\"wp-image-1262 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/erdeneruc225.jpg\" alt=\"Erden Eruc\" width=\"225\" height=\"249\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1262\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Erden Eru\u00e7<br \/>Photo Courtesy of Around-n-Over<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The main project of Around-N-Over is the Six Summits Expedition. \u00a0\u00a0It includes two components:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Circumnavigate the world with human power,<\/li>\n<li>Climb six peaks: \u00a0Denali in North America,\u00a0Kosciuszko in Australia,\u00a0Kilimanjaro in Africa,\u00a0Aconcagua in South America,\u00a0Elbrus in Europe and\u00a0Everest in Asia<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Eru\u00e7 is the adventurer carrying out this project. The journey involved\u00a0crossed the oceans in a rowboat, bicycling as much as possible, using kayaks and canoes as needed and covering part of the trip\u00a0on foot. \u00a0So far he has circumnavigated the world to the standards of the Guiness Book of World Records for around-the-world surface journey as well as the special case of &#8220;circumnavigation\u00a0by surface travel&#8221; that includes hitting at least one pair of antipodal points. \u00a0He began the circumnavigation on July 10, 2007 and completed it on July 21, 2012. Completing circumnavigation\u00a0by surface travel\u00a0means he:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>started and finished at the same location [Bodega Bay near San Francisco],<\/li>\n<li>crossed the Equator [north of Analton Island in the Pacific and in the mid-Atlantic] ,<\/li>\n<li>crossed all lines of longitude,<\/li>\n<li>resumed each leg of the journey from the exact point at which the last one ended,<\/li>\n<li>covered a minimum distance equal to that of the Tropic of Capricorn, which is 22,859 miles (36,788 km) [ He traveled 41,196\u00a0mi (66,299 km).],<\/li>\n<li>proceeded in one direction, east or west, any distance doubled back must be deducted from the total [He traveled westward.],<\/li>\n<li>hit at least one pair of points on the earth&#8217;s surface that are located diametrically opposite of each other [He hit 12 pairs of antipodal points.].<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So far\u00a0Eru\u00e7 has also climbed\u00a0Denali,\u00a0Kosciuszko\u00a0and\u00a0Kilimanjaro.<\/p>\n<h1>Setting Records<\/h1>\n<p>Along the way he\u00a0set a number of records and firsts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0record for longest time at sea for a solo oceanrower: 312 days<\/li>\n<li>first person to have rowed three oceans<\/li>\n<li>first mainland to mainland crossing of the Indian Ocean<\/li>\n<li>first transoceanic crossing by human power from the southern hemisphere to the northern<\/li>\n<li>longest distance by human power on the Atlantic Ocean<\/li>\n<li>most experienced oceanrower alive in the world:\u00a0876 days\u00a0and\u00a0close to 29,000 nautical miles<\/li>\n<li>first person to complete an entirely\u00a0solo\u00a0and entirely\u00a0human-powered\u00a0circumnavigation\u00a0of the earth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Converting the Experience to Education<\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1267\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1267\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1267\" src=\"https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ChaloSchool.jpg\" alt=\"At Chalo School\" width=\"225\" height=\"178\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1267\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Eru\u00e7 with students of the Chalo School<br \/>at Fort Nelson First Nation, BC, Canada<br \/> Photo courtesy of Around-n-Over<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The educational component involved two avenues. \u00a0First, \u00a0funds were raised during the expedition and used to support several projects including providing funding to a Turkish group, \u0130LKYAR, for\u00a0two, rural, school libraries;\u00a0supporting the addition\u00a0of classrooms at the Mateves Secondary School near Mt.
