Virtually everyone that enjoys exploring the outdoors as an adult had one or more\u00a0defining outdoor experience as a kid. \u00a0Families often provide that experience with camping trips, days at the beach, hikes in the mountains and so on. \u00a0Various organizations are also instrumental in providing these experiences. \u00a0Boy Scouts<\/a>, Girl Scouts<\/a>, Campfire<\/a> and others offer easy introductions to the outdoors for kids of various ages.<\/p>\n Educational environments can also set kids off on an outdoor lifestyle and even outdoor careers. \u00a0Current trends in Forest Kindergartens<\/a>\u00a0and other types of outdoor schools can get kids going very early.\u00a0\u00a0High intensity educational programs like Outward Bound<\/a>\u00a0or the National Outdoor Leadership School<\/a> pick up older kids and even adults that want to gain an appreciation of the outdoors.<\/p>\n Last year the\u00a0U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service set out to create a video-based curriculum for kids ages 9 – 13 that would introduce them to wildlife species and various outdoor-oriented careers. \u00a0It’s called Conservation Connect.<\/p>\n At this point Conservation Connect has 13 videos in the series:<\/p>\n Each well-produced video features a specialist and footage about a particular wildlife\u00a0species. For example, during one episode, an educational specialist discusses manatee behavior\u00a0then\u00a0shows actual footage of manatees. \u00a0That is followed by a law enforcement officer who demonstrates the use of high tech tools used to arrest wildlife poachers.
