{"id":2056,"date":"2016-02-22T01:45:19","date_gmt":"2016-02-22T09:45:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/?p=2056"},"modified":"2016-02-20T22:19:34","modified_gmt":"2016-02-21T06:19:34","slug":"yosemite-firefall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/featured\/yosemite-firefall\/","title":{"rendered":"Yosemite Firefall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2058\" src=\"https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/FireFall550.jpg\" alt=\"Yosemite Firefall\" width=\"550\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/FireFall550.jpg 550w, https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/FireFall550-300x110.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Yosemite National Park offers a wide range of outdoor adventures, but something\u00a0rare to see\u00a0is the firefall.<\/p>\n<h1>The Real Firefall<\/h1>\n<p>It was the summer of 1962 when I first visited Yosemite National Park. \u00a0A highlight of the visit was the firefall. \u00a0Every summer evening a crew would start a large fire high above Curry Village at Glacier Point. \u00a0At precisely 9pm they would push the burning embers over the rim producing a stunning\u00a0firefall &#8211; a waterfall of fire &#8211; 3000 feet high.<\/p>\n<p>While park visitors continued to clamor for the firefall, the Park Service put an end to the spectacular event in 1968. \u00a0These days there remains\u00a0a photographic opportunity of a natural event that rivals that real firefall.<\/p>\n<h1>The Natural Firefall<\/h1>\n<p>It seems that for 10 days every February, \u00a0the sun is aligned so that as it sets it brightly illuminates Horsetail Falls. \u00a0This is a natural event, so nature sometimes makes it impossible to see. \u00a0For the last several years, a drought has left Horsetail Falls nearly dry during those ten days. \u00a0In addition to plentiful water coming over the falls, \u00a0the sky has to be clear. \u00a0When everything comes together, \u00a0visitors have just a few minutes to gasp at the sight and capture some photos.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;d like to see this spectacle, the time frame runs from about February 12 to about February 22 and the sun is properly aligned at 5:30 PM. \u00a0Get there early and locate Horsetail Falls on the east side of\u00a0El Capitan. \u00a0Then find a position that gives you a good view of both the falls and the cliff. \u00a0Enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the park as you await the perfect moment.<\/p>\n<h1>The Video<\/h1>\n<p>This video provides some background and great views of both the real firefall and the solar event.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=WSrhvs8WsNc<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1>Please Share<\/h1>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yosemite National Park offers a wide range of outdoor adventures, but something\u00a0rare to see\u00a0is the firefall.
