\"Screen<\/a>\"Getting<\/a>Avenza makes a simple, yet elegant app for iOS and Android devises. \u00a0The app is called PDF Maps and it shows\u00a0your position on a map. \u00a0Beyond that, \u00a0it allows you to download free USGS topographic maps for the U.S. as well as a variety of other free and paid maps from around the world. \u00a0If you happen to be mapmaker, \u00a0Avenza even allows you to sell your maps for use on its app.<\/p>\n

Getting Started<\/h1>\n

To get started:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. download the app from the iTunes\u00a0Store<\/a> or Google Play<\/a> and install on your\u00a0device (phone, iPad etc.) – it’s free!<\/li>\n
  2. purchase or obtain free maps from Avenza’s\u00a0map store<\/li>\n
  3. download the maps to\u00a0the\u00a0device<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    At this point you can\u00a0open the map for the area you\u00a0are in and your\u00a0position will appear as a blue dot on the map.<\/p>\n

    Finding\u00a0Maps<\/h1>\n

    The key thing here is getting the maps you need. \u00a0The easiest way to get maps when planning your adventure is\u00a0to use the\u00a0web browser on your computer, go to the map store\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0and click “Get Maps.” \u00a0You will see a world map with \"Map<\/a>lots of markers on it. \u00a0Each marker represents an available map and many more will appear as you zoom in. \u00a0First click and drag the map to center your location. \u00a0Repeatedly double-click to zoom into your area of interest, or use the plus and minus signs at the lower right to zoom in and out. \u00a0Click on one of the markers to learn about the map. \u00a0You can make the list smaller by choosing to see only free maps. \u00a0You may also choose maps from a particular vendor, like the following:<\/p>\n
