{"id":2594,"date":"2016-07-02T02:50:48","date_gmt":"2016-07-02T09:50:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/?p=2594"},"modified":"2016-07-04T15:37:18","modified_gmt":"2016-07-04T22:37:18","slug":"defying-death-at-crater-lake-national-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/featured\/defying-death-at-crater-lake-national-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Defying Death at Crater Lake National Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/OntheRoof.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2595\" src=\"https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/OntheRoof-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"On the Roof at Sinnott Memorial\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/OntheRoof-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/OntheRoof-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/OntheRoof-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/OntheRoof-140x94.jpg 140w, https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/OntheRoof.jpg 1244w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve highlighted some of the crazy things idiotic\u00a0tourists do in my past writings. \u00a0Like<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>loading a baby bison into the back of a car,<\/li>\n<li>backing up to a bison to take a selfie,<\/li>\n<li>painting strange pictures on the rocks at National Parks or whatever.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Most of us wouldn&#8217;t think to do any of these things \u2013\u00a0they are just crazy.<\/p>\n<h1>Defying Death at Crater Lake<\/h1>\n<p>Last Sunday I was at Crater Lake National Park. \u00a0I was learning about the geologic and botanic history of the park. \u00a0We were eating lunch at the rim and watching a lot of tourists being insane. \u00a0As the photo above shows, \u00a0tourists were climbing onto the roof of the\u00a0Sinnott Memorial Observation Station. \u00a0They were taking pictures, \u00a0throwing rocks toward the lake, and generally behaving like they were two feet off the ground on their backyard deck.<\/p>\n<p>Kids were even running up to the edge in an attempt to throw their rock all the way to the water. \u00a0It&#8217;s an extremely long throw to the water. \u00a0Even golfers are rarely able to get a ball from the rim to the\u00a0water. \u00a0These kids didn&#8217;t come close to the water, \u00a0but they were quite close to death. \u00a0\u00a0The memorial is 900 feet above the rocks next to the lake. \u00a0There is no railing. \u00a0All falls are deadly.<\/p>\n<p>It takes some effort to get on that roof. \u00a0One must climb up the rock side of the building &#8211;
