That is projected to continue. The short answer = up. More info:<\/p>\n<p class=\"qtext_para\">In the period from 1999\u20132009, the declining categories were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>mountain climbing (-5.9%)<a href=\"https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/WinterSportsSmall-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3004\" src=\"https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/WinterSportsSmall-1-300x196.jpg\" alt=\"Winter Sports\" width=\"300\" height=\"196\" srcset=\"https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/WinterSportsSmall-1-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/WinterSportsSmall-1-207x136.jpg 207w, https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/WinterSportsSmall-1-260x170.jpg 260w, https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/WinterSportsSmall-1-430x283.jpg 430w, https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/WinterSportsSmall-1.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>snowmobiling (-5.5%)<\/li>\n<li>migratory bird hunting (-1.1%)<\/li>\n<li>downhill skiing (-8.5%)<\/li>\n<li>cross country skiing (-21.7%)<\/li>\n<li>snowshoeing (-9.4%)<\/li>\n<li>scuba diving (-5.6%)<\/li>\n<li>wind surfing (-10.1%)<\/li>\n<li>rafting (- 2.8%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"qtext_para\">All other categories increased.<\/p>\n<p class=\"qtext_para\">In projections to 2030, all categories increase except when climate change is factoring in. In that case motorized snow use and undeveloped skiing decline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"qtext_para\">All of this comes from a U.S. Forest Service study published last November (2016).
