{"id":39,"date":"2014-12-20T06:00:33","date_gmt":"2014-12-20T14:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/?p=39"},"modified":"2014-12-18T13:50:40","modified_gmt":"2014-12-18T21:50:40","slug":"virtually-outdoors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/explore.globalcreations.com\/theblog\/featured\/virtually-outdoors\/","title":{"rendered":"Virtually Outdoors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Outdoor News<\/em>,\u00a0December 20, highlighted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dNFrZNjs2ng\" target=\"_blank\">a new video from Destination British Columbia<\/a> and noted that they have also produced a virtual reality experience for users of Oculus Rift equipment. \u00a0They also produced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4SkHdRvPbv4\" target=\"_blank\">a &#8220;making of&#8221; video<\/a> about the virtual reality experience. \u00a0Destination BC has a mission to bring visitors to British Columbia. \u00a0If potential visitors can get the experience virtually, will they still want to visit?<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps, someday, virtual reality experiences will replace the real world, but the technology has a long, long\u00a0way to go. \u00a0So far these systems are a treat for our\u00a0eyes and ears, like videos, plus they provide\u00a0the control to look around the landscape on your own and sometimes to move in the environment\u00a0to some degree. \u00a0 \u00a0Missing are the smells and feels of the real world. \u00a0Also missing are the real dangers and adrenaline rushes of exploring the world on your own. \u00a0Will you tread as carefully knowing that a slip will not cause you physical damage &#8211; or death?<\/p>\n<p>Virtual experiences will do no more than videos to reduce visitiation to places like British Columbia. \u00a0They are, however, extremely valuable for those that cannot, for whatever reason, experience the reality.<\/p>\n<p>There is a lot more to experiencing nature than virtual reality can provide.
