Originally for young men ages 18\u201323, it was eventually expanded to young men ages 17\u201328. Since the days of the CCC, numerous organizations have developed programs that support young men and women in outdoor work to benefit public lands. \u00a0In January 2013, \u00a0a National Council of representatives from Federal agencies agreed through a memorandum of understanding to develop and support the 21st Century Conservation Service Corps (21CSC) in efforts to expand these programs to reach more youth and veterans that want outdoors work and training on conservation and related projects.<\/p>\n<p>National Council membership includes leadership from the Departments of the Army, Interior, Agriculture, Commerce, and Labor, Environmental Protection Agency, the President&#8217;s Council on Environmental Quality, and the Corporation for National and Community Service. The National Council agreed to\u00a0work to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>support program expansion, including by matching natural resource management needs with 21CSC opportunities and identifying potential sources of funding and other resources<\/li>\n<li>remove barriers and streamline processes for supporting 21CSC programs<\/li>\n<li>support participant pathways to careers<\/li>\n<li>facilitate technical assistance<\/li>\n<li>develop and support partnerships<\/li>\n<li>coordinate messaging and<\/li>\n<li>ensure national representation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Member Organizations<\/h1>\n<p>Last December, the 21st Century Conservation Service Corps (21CSC) National Council began looking for conservation corps, youth, and veteran programs that would like to be identified as a 21CSC member organizations. \u00a0Those that meet established criteria will become beneficiaries of these Federal efforts. \u00a0To date the following national organizations have been accepted as members of 21CSC:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/usaconservation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">American Conservation Experience (ACE)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/environmentalstewards.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Environmental Stewards<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rock.geosociety.org\/g_corps\/\" target=\"_blank\">Geological Society of America- GeoCorps America Program<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geosociety.org\/mosaics\/\" target=\"_blank\">Geological Society of America- Mosaics in Science Program<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesca.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Student Conservation Association<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition there are 168 multi-state, state and local programs that have been accepted to membership. If you have an organization that would like to get involved, \u00a0applications are still being accepted. \u00a0Review the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/articles\/2014\/12\/22\/2014-29914\/21st-century-conservation-service-corps-partnership-opportunity\" target=\"_blank\">Federal Register Notice<\/a>\u00a0for all the details.<\/p>\n<h1>Participants<\/h1>\n<p>Individuals aged 16 to 24 and veterans to age 34 can participate in 21st Century Conservation Service Corps by signing up for programs\u00a0with the member organizations discussed above. \u00a0Each organization has one or more programs and they all differ in their requirements and the opportunities they offer. \u00a0Overall, however, \u00a0they have the goal of putting\u00a0young Americans and Veterans to work\u00a0outdoors while\u00a0preserving America&#8217;a public lands and waters, neighborhoods, communities and national treasures. \u00a0At the same time they offer\u00a0training, skills, education, and employment opportunities that will allow participants to pursue a wide range of careers and life opportunities. \u00a0See the <a href=\"https:\/\/21csc.org\/news-2\/100-projects-to-restore-america\/\" target=\"_blank\">21CSC website for examples of the work that is already underway<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Projects include significant outdoor activity and involve\u00a0\u201chands-on\u201d direct\u00a0impact while helping young people connect with America&#8217;s Great Outdoors. Some programs may include work that is primarily indoors\u2014for example, science, policy or program internships\u2014that have a clear benefit to natural, cultural or historic resources. \u00a0Service is compensated (not volunteer).
